LinkedIn Search Guide

LinkedIn location filters

Use LinkedIn location, distance, relocation, and workplace-type filters correctly when searching for jobs, candidates, or professional contacts.

In job search, LinkedIn accepts a postal code, city, state, province, or country as a location. Distance can then narrow nearby results where the interface offers it. Remote, hybrid, and on-site describe workplace type, not a geographic location.

In people and Recruiter searches, location depends on LinkedIn's standardized geographic data and the information in a member profile. Search nearby regions separately when a location name is ambiguous or when commuting and relocation are realistic.

Practical checklist

  • Use a standardized city, region, postal code, or country.
  • Treat remote, hybrid, and on-site as workplace types.
  • Check whether distance is measured from the expected place.
  • Verify relocation assumptions rather than inferring them from a result.
